As we plan and then implement our plans for the SETAC Europe 29th Annual Meeting, which will be held from 26–30 May 2019 in Helsinki, Finland, we want to provide you various updates and important information.
Free Public Transportation for the First 2,000 Attendees
Never before has this been said so affectionately and invitingly. The local organizing committee of SETAC Helsinki is working enthusiastically to come up with a wonderful program ready for you to enjoy. The beautiful capital of Finland, smack dab on the Baltic Sea coast, will offer you memorable sights and moments… and also free public transportation (buses, trams, commuter trains, metro) within the city limits during the conference, including transfer from the airport and back.
The offer is there for the first 2,000 conference registrants, so be sure to be among the first. Participants will still need to purchase their first ticket at the airport to go to their hotel or congress center. Registrants qualifying for this offer will receive their ticket upon arrival at the registration desk in the congress center for the remainder of the conference.
First SETAC Europe Science Jam
In regard to the fun, the local organizing committee has taken the step to boldly go where no man has gone before…the first ever SETAC Science Jam! You and your SETAC-going colleagues are invited to form a group and play your favorite song live on stage in front of our international and highly energized crowd. The instruments needed will be available on-site, and the performance voted best by your colleagues will be awarded. More information on the first SETAC Science Jam will be coming up soon, so stay tuned – and tune your guitar!
Combine Your Program with the Helsinki Chemicals Forum
Take advantage of the two-day Helsinki Chemicals Forum, an independent forum aimed at promoting chemicals safety and chemicals management. This event was scheduled just prior to the annual meeting to take advantage of our interconnected and global delegates. The organizers are currently working on possible discounts for those who register for both events and are working to offer sessions and workshops covering topics of joint interest.
Student Volunteers Are Precious to Us
Have you ever wondered how a large annual meeting is organized? The student volunteer program is your chance to look behind the scenes.
SETAC Europe is looking for dedicated students willing to assist on-site during the SETAC Europe annual meeting.
The tasks include, but are not limited, to assisting with session and meeting rooms, registering delegates, helping delegates with uploading or downloading presentations, organizing awards and taking pictures at the meeting.
As compensation, student volunteers receive a free conference registration for the SETAC Europe 2019 and 2020 annual meetings, enjoy a one-year free SETAC membership and, moreover, they will receive free accommodation and a free ticket for the student party during SETAC Helsinki.
Read what volunteers said about their experiences in this November 2017 Globe article.
Apply by 4 January. You can find all necessary information on the SETAC Helsinki website about how to volunteer.
New to SETAC Europe? Sign Up for the Mentorship Program!
This program will help you feel at ease during the meeting thanks to our host of enthusiastic mentors ready to assist you. They will introduce you to peers, help you navigate through the meeting and will give you advice for career perspectives based on their experiences.
As a mentor, you share your experience to the next generation and you are rewarded with meeting new and enthusiastic participants as well as improving your mentoring skills.
If you want to take part to this exciting program either as a mentor or mentee, simply indicate your participation while registering for the meeting by 20 March 2019.
