SETAC will be holding its 8th World Congress in September 2020. We are accepting proposals for session topics and professional training courses through 1 December 2019.

SETAC World Congress logoEvery four years, SETAC hosts a World Congress, the largest and most prestigious of SETAC events. During the five-day World Congress, delegates will explore the state of the knowledge towards achieving sustainable environmental quality, globally. Scientists from around the globe will meet for the SETAC 8th World Congress from 6–10 September 2020 at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre in Singapore. The scientific congress will be accompanied with a social program including an opening reception, a conference gala dinner and educational tours. The World Congress theme is “Global Visions for Sustainable Environmental Quality.” This theme captures the heart of SETAC’s mission, Environmental Quality Through Science®.

An Open Call for Sessions and Professional Training Courses

Please consider submitting a session in your field of expertise by 1 December. Sessions in cooperation with other scientific societies and stakeholders are especially encouraged. Session tracks include:

  • Aquatic and Terrestrial Toxicology

  • Environmental Risk Assessment
  • Policy, Management and Communication
  • Engineering, Remediation and Restoration
  • Chemistry and Exposure Assessment

Also consider submitting initiatives for satellite and collaborative meetings. The World Congress offers opportunities to all stakeholders to organize pre- and post-meetings and workshops, sponsor sessions, bring forward new topics, and initiate and organize exhibitions. Please submit your professional training course proposal by 25 March 2020.

What Will Singapore Offer You?

Jewel waterfall at Singapore airport

Singapore airport’s Jewel dazzles with five-story waterfall.

Singapore is a highly multicultural city located in the heart of Southeast Asia. Consistently ranked as one of the cleanest and safest cities in the world, we think SETAC attendees will be dazzled by the amazing green spaces and sustainability efforts of Singapore, where environmental protection is an integral part of city planning. For example, as you enter Singapore from the Changi Airport, you will be greeted by the “Jewel” that houses the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, named the Rain Vortex. For a green break during the meeting, stroll through the Gardens by the Bay, which is located next to the congress venue and bordering the sea.

When planning your trip, include some extra time to enjoy the many sights and wide varieties of cultures that Singapore has to offer. You can walk in the financial district, stroll along the Singapore river, taste amazing food in Chinatown and Little India, and admire old buildings which stand in contrast to the new and futuristic buildings near the harbor. Singapore has an efficient and inexpensive public transport network consisting of metro trains and busses, which enables attendees to easily get around.

Please check out the World Congress website for more meeting specific information. The committee is also planning initiatives to make the meeting affordable.

See you in Singapore!
