Why Join the SETAC UK Regional Branch Council?

Michelle Bloor, SETAC UK Branch President

Are you a member of SETAC who wants to help shape the society, but you don’t have much time in which to do it? Are you based in the UK? If so, joining the SETAC UK Regional Branch Council could be your answer!

SETAC UK is one of five regional branches of SETAC Europe. The other branches are located along the Arabian Gulf and in Germany, Italy and Russia. The role of regional branches is to engage with SETAC members on a local scale. In the UK, we plan and coordinate events and incentives for our members relating to science development, networking opportunities, outreach, mentorship, education and much, much more. It’s an exciting time to join the SETAC UK Council as we have a newly established Student Council, and we are currently planning and developing new strategies to continue with the branch’s success.

It doesn’t require a large time investment to perform the duties of the UK Council. We have one or two half-day face-to-face meetings each year, and 1–2 hour bimonthly teleconferences. The council also has a clear and transparent role structure, and there are many opportunities to progress through the council’s hierarchy – an ideal way to gain new skills and take advantage of professional development opportunities.

We have vacancies for full members and student members. Find out more on the SETAC UK website or contact Michelle Bloor, the branch president. To apply, send a letter explaining why you would like to join the SETAC UK Council and a CV to setacukbranch@gmail.com.
