Successful Start to the Herb Ward Endowment Challenge!

Ruth Hull, SETAC North America Endowment Trustee and Chair

YES Meeting
Four academic generations in jail at once (Megan Stallard, Frank Bailey, Steve Klaine and Herb Ward).

The Herb Ward Endowment Fund Challenge is poised to more than double the current SETAC North America Endowment Fund to $400,000 by the SETAC North America 40th Annual Meeting in 2019. Help us meet this goal!

We made a good start at the SETAC North America 36th Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the Jail-and-Bail! Arrest warrants were purchased via donations to the fund, and then bail also went to the fund. In at least two cases, we put four academic generations in jail!

Then everyone wanted to go to jail! Well, maybe not everyone…..

Now we invite you to join us in meeting Herb Ward’s challenge goal. You can do that in a number of ways:

We encourage you to pledge $40 per year for four years. If all regular members would do this, we’ll exceed the goal. Of course, any amount is welcome and will help us reach the goal. If you travel a lot for work, consider donating some of your air miles or points. You also can do your shopping online via smile.amazon.com (instead of the regular amazon.com). When you shop at “smile,” Amazon makes a small donation at no additional cost to you. Just select SETAC as your charity of choice.

YES Meeting
Four generations of Giesy’s extended academic family (through the Oris Lab).

In 2015, the SETAC North America Endowment Fund supported the Sonny Mayer Ph.D. Student Presentation Awards, three student travel awards for the Salt Lake City meeting and one student to attend the upcoming Pellston Workshop® on endocrine disruptors. As the fund grows, we can provide more distributions in support of our SETAC North America activities. We are limited only by available funds and our imagination. To learn more about what some of the grant recipients have to say, please visit the SETAC website.

YES Meeting
Security even tried to put me in jail, but thankfully I had purchased my “Get out of jail free” card!

I’d like to thank Paul Mehrle and Gene Mancini for their service to the Endowment Fund Board of Trustees and welcome Jim Oris and Ralph Stahl, who joined the board at the SETAC Salt Lake City meeting. Thanks also to Holly Dixon, a student who is helping the board particularly in the realm of social media. If you have any questions about the endowment fund, would like to make a donation, or help us with our activities, please contact Ruth Hull, chair of the board of trustees, or Greg Schiefer, SETAC North America Executive Director. We still have one opening on the board; contact me if you’d like to know more. Follow our progress and see how you can contribute, and read testimonials from people who have received support from the fund.
