Pharmaceuticals SETAC Pharmaceuticals Advisory Group Workshop Summary

The SETAC Pharmaceuticals Advisory Group held a half-day workshop in May entitled “Weighing Up the Environmental Costs of Pharmaceutical Use Against the Benefits to Human and Animal Health and Costs of Risk Management.” The purpose of this workshop was to look at the issue of pharmaceuticals in the environment in a broader context and particularly to reframe the discussion around this issue in terms of weighing the overall benefits and potential costs that the presence of these compounds in ecosystems present.

Early registration ends 23 September for the SETAC Europe 10th Special Science Symposium, which will be held from 14–15 October 2014 in Brussels, Belgium. Poster abstracts can be submitted until 15 September.

The 29 September deadline is approaching to apply for a SETAC Europe Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Young Scientist Award. The SETAC Europe LCA Steering Committee would like to recognize and honour the participation of students and pre-professionals active in the field of LCA and to enhance their professional development.

Late-breaking science abstracts for SETAC Vancouver will be accepted until 29 October. Poster presentations only. Submit at vancouver.setac.org.

The coordinated science theme for the SETAC Vancouver meeting is "Energy, Sustainability and Global Risk." There will be three sessions based on this theme, sponsored by the Advisory Group on Sustainability and the Ecological Risk Assessment Advisory Group. Click here for the list of sessions.

Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IEAM) is accepting nominations for senior editors in the areas of decision analysis, life cycle assessment, sustainability, climate change, ecological restoration, water resource management, human health and ecological risk assessment, and environmental governance for 2015–2017. The deadline to submit a nomination is 1 October. View full description and instructions.
