Interested in Organizing a SETAC summer school in 2015?

Carlos Barata, SETAC Europe Education Committee Chair

Submit your summer school proposal by 31 December!

Summer schools aim to offer scientists and students training through the best up-to-date knowledge in the areas of

  • Environmental quality
  • Environmental chemistry
  • Ecotoxicology
  • Risk assessment within the framework of generic (e.g. Water Framework Directive) or dedicated (e.g. REACH, Plant Protection Products, EFSA) regulations
  • Handling, monitoring and remediation of pollution
  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Management (LCM)
  • Emerging pollutants
  • Nanomaterials
  • Data processing and managing in environmental toxicology and chemistry

Summer schools include time for teaching, exchanges, independent study on case-studies and knowledge assessment. Principles and methodologies developed are illustrated through hands-on or case-study examples. Summer schools are organized for scientists of diverse backgrounds and experiences (students, scientists at universities, regulatory offices and private companies), who have had previous education or training.

Summer schools can be proposed by SETAC members representing risk assessment offices, universities, research centres or laboratories that have proven a sound expertise in the area. Speakers should have both experience and practice in the principles and methodologies presented during the training.

What are the benefits to summer school organizers?

Publicity and recognition by SETAC. Indeed, organizers benefit through:

  • Advertisement of organizers' training activities and acknowledgement on SETAC website
  • Acknowledgement as supporter of SETAC Europe's education and student activities
  • Acknowledgement in SETAC Europe annual meeting signs and publications
