SETAC Nashville--Deepwater Horizon/MC252 Spill Update
E. Mancini, Mancini & Associates
The Deepwater Horizon Rig/Macondo 252 well incident and spill in the Gulf of Mexico in the spring of 2010 challenged emergency responders with engineering, response operations, scientific as well as coordination and management issues. During the Nashville meeting, there will be both platform and poster presentations including a broad array of subjects presented by university, government and private consulting scientists. Topics will include oil and dispersant chemistry and exposure assessments including the fate and behavior of petroleum as well as impacts of spill-derived petroleum concentrations on fish eggs and larvae, plankton species, oysters, crabs and a variety of finfish species in coastal and offshore waters. There will be dedicated time periods after each platform presentation to engage presenters in brief Q&A sessions as well as extended summary periods after both the morning and afternoon platforms for more substantive engagement and discussion.
It’s been three and a half years since the incident, what research topics are still being investigated?
